The name sambuca originates from the latin name of the elder tree - sambuca nigra growing in abundance in Italy from where its oils are used in its production before adding the white elder blossoms which after distillation along with the anise seeds and other ingredients create Opal Nera's unique flavour with its dark purple-black colour derived from elder berries.
